Suspect device at Kansas airport

FEDERAL agents in Missouri are questioning a man after a suspicious device was found in his carry-on bag at Kansas City International Airport.

Aviation Department spokesman Joe McBride said the device was found about 9.30am yesterday at a Southwest Airlines checkpoint.

Southwest spokesman Chris Mainz says security agents stopped a man going through the checkpoint and asked to examine his bag.

He says the man refused to co-operate and was taken into custody, and a bomb squad was called to examine the device.

Mainz says no flights were affected by the incident, other than some delays caused by the checkpoint being shut down.

Meanwhile, police and airport officials say there was nothing dangerous about suspicious boxes on a cargo pallet that prompted a four-hour evacuation of several gates at Dulles International Airport on Saturday.

Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority spokes-man Rob Yingling said a detection dog alerted hand-lers to boxes on a cargo pallet on Saturday afternoon.

Virginia State Police bomb technicians X-rayed the pallet and a second detection dog sweep determined there was nothing harmful inside.

Yingling did not know where the boxes came from or their destination.
