THOUSANDS of London commuters faced severe delays last night after a man climbed under a train and refused to move, British Transport Police said.

Massive rail disruption

The incident was reported at Thornton Heath in south London at 5.40pm, after the man climbed onto the train tracks and underneath a Southern train.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said: “We appear to have a man on the track who has climbed under a train.

“The train driver was able to see the man and stop the train.”

Network Rail said the man was sedated by paramedics and taken into custody. He said tens of thousands of travellers were affected.
