‘Biggest bed in world’ fit for a Russian tsar
A furniture manufacturer has produced the three-metre (9.8ft) long, 2.8-metre (9.2ft) wide creation for a mystery customer.
It is almost three times the size of a normal bed and the makers believe it could be the biggest in the world.
Designer Jamie Cooper, from Ipswich-based Titchmash & Goodwin, said he was “extremely proud” of the Moscow-bound oak bed.
He said: “It wouldn’t fit in my house and it’s the biggest thing I’ve ever designed. I haven’t heard of anyone making anything bigger.
“I have seen a sketch of the room it’s destined for and it’s more like a barn than a bedroom.”
Another company, Sleeping Partners of Framlingham, Suffolk, produced two huge specially-commissioned mattresses for the customer.
Mr Cooper was tight-lipped about the identity of the mystery customer.
He said: “We have made a 24-seater dining table and drinks cabinets that are just massive.
“Russian clients seem to love traditional English designs and are turning to the real high quality we produce.”
