Rock stars and royalty share wedding spotlight
The be-trousered Ms Wittstock is now Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco while the other bride, Kate Moss, is still Kate Moss.
The supermodel married indie rocker Jamie Hince in a village in the English Cotswolds yesterday. The happy couple posed outside St Peter’s Church in Southrop following the ceremony along with Moss’s 15 bridesmaids, including her eight-year-old daughter Lila Grace.
The couple’s ceremony took around 45 minutes, before they left the church to cheers from locals.
The couple then kissed before getting into a Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow car, which drove them back to their home in nearby Little Faringdon.
As the car pulled away, the newlyweds waved and a Rolling Stones track could be heard playing on its stereo.
Meanwhile, the first royal wedding in Monaco since Prince Rainier III married Hollywood star Grace Kelly in 1956 was a very tame affair as reigning Prince Albert II took former Olympian swimmer, South African Charlene Wittstock, as his princess.
About 90 dignitaries, including Prince Albert’s sisters Princesses Caroline and Stephanie and the ambassadors of France and South Africa, packed the throne room of the royal palace for a civil ceremony.
Miss Wittstock wore a silken blue jacket with ankle-length trousers, an outfit that Chanel created for the civil ceremony.
The marriage became official — and Miss Wittstock became a princess — when Philippe Narmino, president of Monaco’s Council of State, pronounced: “I declare you united by the bonds of marriage.”
The royal couple signed the marriage register with a specially created pen in gold and precious stones and adorned with their monogram made by German luxury pen maker Montblanc.
