Ex mob boss ‘Whitey’ Bulger returns to Boston to face charges

AFTER 16 long years as a fugitive, notorious gangster James “Whitey” Bulger returned home to Boston last night to face charges of murder, conspiracy, narcotics distribution, extortion and money laundering.

Bulger, the former leader of the violent Winter Hill Gang, was captured in Santa Monica, California, on Wednesday, along with his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig.

The 81-year-old was expected to be driven to the federal courthouse in his old South Boston neighbourhood. He was to appear before Magistrate Judge Leo Sorokin, spokeswoman Christina Sterling said.
