34 protesters killed in Syria

SYRIAN security forces opened fire during one of the largest anti-government protests so far in the 10-week revolt, killing at least 34 people, as tens of thousands of Syrians poured into the streets after Friday prayers, a human rights group said.

Security forces fired on at least two of the demonstrations demanding President Bashar Assad stand down, renewing their assault on towns key to the revolt.
