Yemeni forces kill protesters

YEMENI forces fired at protesters blockading a government building yesterday, killing a shopkeeper and three protesters in Taiz, a city that has seen some of the largest demonstrations against President Ali Abdullah Saleh, witnesses said.

Security forces wounded at least 80 protesters.

The latest violence came as the country’s main opposition group awaited word on whether Gulf Arab states could revive a deal to edge Saleh out of power within a month.
