William to be next king: 59%

MORE than half of people in Britain believe Prince William should become the next monarch, a poll found.

And one in three wants the Queen to abdicate within the next two years, according to the study.

The Panelbase survey conducted for the Sunday Times detected signs of a “fairytale effect”, with William and Kate Middleton’s wedding under three weeks away.

The poll of almost 2,000 adults, carried out between Tuesday and Thursday, found that 59% of people favour dispensing with tradition to see William, rather than his father, the Prince of Wales, ascend the throne.
