Nelson must sing for court

A TEXAS prosecutor says Willie Nelson can resolve marijuana possession charges by agreeing to plead guilty, pay a fine — and sing Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain for the court.

Nelson must sing for court

County attorney Kit Bramblett said he recommended the penalties to Hudspeth County’s judge Becky Dean-Walker. Mr Bramblett said the judge specifically demanded Nelson appear in court instead of pleading by mail, which is a common procedure in such cases.

Mr Bramblett has said the judge “wants to meet Willie”.

“He’s gotta sing Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain with his guitar right there in the courtroom,” Bramblett said, adding: “You bet your ass I ain’t gonna be mean to Willie Nelson.”

Ms Dean-Walker did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Nelson was arrested on November 26 for marijuana possession at a Border Patrol checkpoint after an agent smelled an odour coming from his vehicle and decided to conduct a search.

Nelson’s spokeswoman has declined to comment on the sentencing suggestion.
