Taxi driver charged over nightclub murder

A TAXI driver has been charged with the murder of Sian O’Callaghan.

Christopher Halliwell, 47, who was arrested by officers in a swoop on a taxi rank in Swindon on Thursday, will appear before magistrates in the town today.

Ms O’Callaghan, a 22-year-old PA, disappeared from the Suju nightclub in Swindon, Wiltshire.

Her body was discovered close to the Uffington White Horse in Oxfordshire on Thursday.

In a statement, Wiltshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Halliwell was charged with Ms O’Callaghan’s murder.

Halliwell remains in police custody at Gablecross Police Station in Swindon.

Police officers and forensic experts continue to search a field in Gloucestershire where they found remains believed to be those of a woman killed between 2003 and 2005. Her identity has yet to be revealed.

Ms O’Callaghan was last seen alive in CCTV footage filmed close to Suju in the early hours of last March 19, after a night out with girlfriends.

She lived in a flat under 1km away with her boyfriend Kevin Reape, 25.
