30 killed by US missile strike

MORE than 30 suspected militants have been killed in a missile strike by a US drone in a Pakistan region bordering Afghanistan.

Pakistani intelligence officials say the strikes took place in the North Waziristan tribal region — the main sanctuary for al Qaida and Taliban fighters along the Afghan border.

The roughly three dozen suspected militants at the meeting were allied with Hafiz Gul Bahadur, a powerful Pakistani Taliban commander in the area who has focused his efforts on fighting foreign troops in Afghanistan, said the officials.
