Neverland is being produced by Dublin-based Parallel Films on behalf of MNG Films in association with Syfy and Sky Movies HD and distributed by RHI Entertainment.

Knightley is perhaps best known for her work in the films Pride & Prejudice, Love Actually, Atonement and the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

She joins a cast which already includes Anna Friel, Bob Hoskins and Charles Dance for the four-hour film, to be screened in two parts on Sky Movies Premiere HD later this year.

She leads a colony of tree-dwelling spirits in the film, which imagines a world before JM Barrie’s classic tale begins.

Knightley will record her role shortly.

Peter (Charlie Rowe), along with his pals of young pickpockets, have been rounded up by their mentor Jimmy Hook (Rhys Ifans) to snatch a magical orb which transports them to another world — Neverland. Filled with white jungles and imposing cities formed out of trees created by Dr Fludd (Dance) and inhabited by a colony of tree spirits led by Tinker Bell (Knightley), this mysterious realm welcomes unknown friends and enemies snatched from time.

These include power-mad Elizabeth Bonny (Friel) and her band of 18th century pirates who search for the answer to eternal youth, a secret guarded by a Holy Man (Raoul Trujillo).

Meanwhile, the Producers of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are returning to Grand Canal Theatre, Dublin with a brand new musical production of Peter Pan performing from Friday, July 15 to Saturday, August 6, 2011.
