Mother admits killing her kids

AN American woman has admitted to a court she stabbed her three children to death in their Edinburgh home last year.

California-born Theresa Riggi, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge of culpable homicide on the grounds of diminished responsibility at the High Court in Edinburgh.

She had originally been charged with murder.

The bodies of eight-year-old twins Austin and Luke and their five-year-old sister Cecilia were discovered at their flat in Slateford Rode on August 4 last year, after a suspected gas explosion.

Police found three blood-covered knives near the children’s bodies, which had multiple stab wounds.

Riggi was found badly injured after apparently falling from a second-floor balcony. The court heard she had several stab wounds to her own body which were believed to have been self-inflicted.

Riggi will reappear at the High Court in Glasgow on April 26 for sentencing.
