TWO jewel-encrusted Faberge eggs created as tributes to Celtic hero Jimmy Johnstone and Manchester United’s George Best have sold for less than estimated.

Auctioneers estimated the eggs, which have a silver and gold figure of each of the players inside, could have fetched between £15,000 (€17,500) and £20,000 (€23,500) each.

The Jinky egg, one of 19 specially created by the master goldsmiths in 2005 and owned by lifelong Celtic fans David and Pauline McGinty, was sold for £12,000 (€14,000).
