Ugandan poll

UGANDA’S election commission announced yesterday that the long- time president has won a recent poll, an outcome the opposition is rejecting.

The electoral commission said President Yoweri Museveni — who seized power at the head of a guerrilla army in 1986 — won 68% of votes but his challenger, Kizza Besigye, claimed the election was fraudulent and rejected the results.

The commission said Besigye took 26% of votes.

Besigye previously threatened Egypt-style protests if the results are not in line with what he and his supporters believe are the true returns.
