Thief, 80, jailed

AN 80-year-old woman with a decades-long criminal history has been sentenced to five years in prison for stealing an $8,900 (€6,533) diamond ring from a Macy’s department store.

Doris Payne was convicted of burglary and grand theft in connection with the January 2010 theft at the Fashion Valley shopping centre in San Diego. She was sentenced in San Diego County Superior Court.
