Underground strike planned

LONDONERS face more transport disruption after a 24-hour strike was called on part of the underground train system in support of two sacked drivers.

Underground strike planned

The strike will take place from Friday evening and will affect the Bakerloo and Northern lines, the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union said.

Workers walked out on a similar 24-hour strike last month.

Commuters have already had to endure severe disruption across the network in a separate dispute between the RMT and London Underground (LU) over staffing levels.

Another union, ASLEF, staged a strike on December 26 in a row over bonus payments.

LU said one driver had been dismissed for a serious safety breach and the other for abusive behaviour towards colleagues.

It said the strikes were called despite a low ballot turnout, and that it would “seek to operate the best service possible”.
