A HOSPITAL graveyard in Austria could contain the remains of up to 220 people killed by the Nazis.

The hospital said it became aware of the possibility during planning to dig up the graveyard in Hall, Tyrol province, for a construction project.

The graves contain remains of people buried between 1942 and 1945.

It said “there are suspicions that the dead are at least partially victims of” the Nazi euthanasia programme.

Spokesman Johannes Schwamberger said work has been stopped to allow an investigation and to identify the dead.

More than 75,000 people were killed by the Nazis for having physical or mental disabilities.
