Ivory Coast civil war fears

THE UN has warned supporters of Ivory Coast incumbent leader Laurent Gbagbo that an attack on the hotel where internationally recognised election winner Alassane Ouattara has set up a shadow government could re-ignite civil war.

A pro-Gbagbo youth leader has said that Ouattara and his supporters have until today to “pack up their bags”.

UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is “deeply alarmed” by these comments.

Ban said an attack on the hotel could provoke widespread violence that could re-ignite civil war.
