Two held after baby kidnap

TWO people were arrested after a newborn baby, stolen from a hospital on the outskirts of Frankfurt yesterday, was found several hours later, German police said.

The baby was born in the clinic early this morning, but around noon a woman came into the mother’s room pretending to be a nurse and took the girl away, police said in a statement.

Officers launched a major search operation around the Hoechst hospital, and several hours later they were tipped off to search a nearby home, where officers found two 28-year-old women with the baby, police said.

Both were arrested as they could not explain why the baby was with them, police said.

A nurse from the hospital and a midwife later identified the missing girl, German news agency DAPD reported.
