Stars emotional over Corrie tragedy
This week, The Street will be hit by tragedy when an explosion rips through the Joinery bar and a tram derails off the viaduct.
Actor Michael Le Vell, who has played mechanic Kevin Webster for 28 years, also hinted at which characters may not survive the disaster.
“Seeing a good friend of mine doing some of his final scenes brought a tear to my eye,” he said.
Some of the soap’s best-loved landmarks are destroyed in the explosion and three characters are killed off. “It’s a mixed bag of emotions. It was very moving. It brought a lump to my throat to be honest,” Le Vell said.
The disaster strikes on the same night Peter Barlow celebrates his stag do. He is left fighting for his life alongside Ashley Peacock and love rival Nick Tilsley.
Barlow’s bride-to-be Leanne Battersby is also knocked off her feet by the blast as well as his father Ken Barlow, played by William Roache.
Over at The Kabin corner shop, Molly Dobbs and her baby Jack are in danger as well as Sunita Alahan and store owner Rita Sullivan.
The scenes have taken months to film and the tram stunt is thought to have cost £1m (€1.18m).
Weatherfield’s turmoil will unfold over five nights with a special hour-long episode airing on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Steve Huison, who plays long-haired layabout Eddie Windass, tweeted he would be “looking for work March time,” indicating he is one of the three to be killed off.
“Do you know what I’m really looking forward to more than anything else? A right b****y good haircut!”
Soap bosses said the door would be left open for the character.
Producer Phil Collinson added: “I’ve loved watching Steve’s portrayal of super slob Eddie. With Anna and Gary still very much part of Coronation Street I am sure it isn’t the last we will see of Eddie.”
Gary’s post-traumatic stress disorder will be triggered by this week’s tram crash, after which he will experience flashbacks to his time in Afghanistan.
