Polanski film scoops awards

CONTROVERSIAL film director Roman Polanski’s thriller The Ghost Writer was the toast of the European Film Awards at a ceremony in Tallinn, Estonia, winning six prizes including best film and best director.

The 77-year-old did not attend the ceremony in Estonia, appearing instead via internet video software Skype.

Scotland’s Ewan McGregor was named best actor for his role in the film.
