Polygamy ban

A LAWYER for a polygamous community in western Canada is seeking to decriminalise the practice.

Robert Wickett told British Columbia Supreme Court that criminalising polygamy violated the right to religious freedom.

The court is examining whether a polygamy ban violates Canada’s version of the bill of rights in a case that focuses on the small polygamous community of Bountiful, British Columbia.
