At least 32 dead as four-storey building collapses in Delhi

A FOUR-STOREY building collapsed in Delhi yesterday, killing at least 32 people, the Press Trust of India news agency reported.

More than 60 people were injured when the building in the eastern area of the city caved in and many are still feared to be trapped inside, the agency said.

Delhi's health minister Kiran Walia told PTI: "32 people have been killed in the incident"

Rescuers helped by local residents battled to pull people from the debris of the building, surrounded by concrete slabs and rubble, PTI reported.

The city's finance minister A. K. Walia told PTI the foundations of the building could have been weakened by flooding during monsoon rains.

Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit said the construction of the building would be investigated."
