Swine flu vaccine probe launched

A MAJOR probe has been launched into potential health risks caused by a leading swine flu vaccine after it was linked to the sleeping disorder narcolepsy.

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has launched the investigation into the Pandemrix drug due to concerns raised in Finland and Sweden over its unexpected side-effects.

Narcolepsy sufferers are unable to stay awake for long periods and can suddenly fall into a deep sleep without warning, making driving, baths and other daily activities potentially dangerous.
