Black denied Canada return

FORMER media mogul Conrad Black will not be allowed to return to his home in Canada for the time being, a US judge ruled yesterday.

Black denied Canada return

District Judge Amy St Eve in Chicago ordered Black to surrender his expired passport. She also said he cannot obtain a new passport without the court’s permission.

Black was freed from prison in Florida on bail on Wednesday after serving two years of a six-and-a-half-year sentence for defrauding investors out of $6.1 million (€4.7m.)

Black’s lawyers said he wants to return to Toronto because of media attention and his wife’s medical conditions.

The judge wants more thorough financial information from Black before she decides whether to allow him to return to Canada. She ordered him back to court on August 16.
