Stereophonics drummer dies

FORMER Stereophonics drummer Stuart Cable was found dead at his home yesterday in Aberdare, Wales. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The drummer quit the Stereophonics in 2003 and had since hosted a regular weekend rock show for BBC Radio Wales

Cable was a founding member of Stereophonics, originally from Cwmaman in south Wales.

He was sacked in September 2003 because of “commitment” issues following the release of the band’s third LP. He was thought to be devoting too much time to his blossoming media career.

Frontman Kelly Jones said at the time that the decision to axe him was “heartbreaking” but months of effort to resolve the situation had failed.

Cable had often seemed a little apart from the rest of the band. He had formed a new band Killing For Company and was due to play the high-profile Download rock festival on Saturday.
