The trio were arrested in Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight in a joint operation involving Hampshire and Isle of Wight police, the Serious Organised Crime Agency (Soca) and the UK Border Agency.

A member of the public spotted rucksacks attached to the pots off the south coast on Sunday morning.

About 200 kilos of what is believed to be class A drugs were recovered after the rucksacks were recovered from the sea.

If tests prove positive, the estimated value would be about £8m (€9.4m), said a Soca spokesman.

The men, in their 30s and early 40s, are being held at a police station in Hampshire where they are being questioned by officers from Soca.
