Spike impaled in man’s head after fall
Police said Nicholas Blossom was drunk at a party in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighbourhood when he fell from a third-floor balcony at about 4am on Saturday.
He landed head first on the fence of the second-floor balcony of an adjoining building.
Rescuers used an electric saw to detach Blossom, who plays drums in an unsigned rock band called Alaska Alaska, from the fence.
He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where The New York Post reported he was recovering faster than doctors predicted.
“He’s doing very well,” Blossom’s roommate Corey Mulee told the Post. “The family is really happy.”
Blossom was speaking and even joking from his hospital bed just hours after the plunge
A piece of the fence was still lodged in his scalp when he arrived at Bellevue Hospital, the Post said.
“I just want to fucking scream,” Blossom wailed to family members from his bed inside the intensive care unit, according to the Post.
A California native, he moved to New York in September, the Post said.
Blossom had been sitting alone on a ledge, screaming that he “hated everybody” before falling, according to reports
Neighbours called the NYPD to report an emotionally disturbed person hollering from the roof.
“I was just getting ready for bed when I heard a boom,” said neighbour James Neal.
“I heard moaning, then obscenities... and then some screams for help. That’s when I called the cops,” Neal said.
