Terminal cancer bet winner dies weeks before his third payout

A MAN with terminal cancer who won £10,000 by betting he would stay alive has died just weeks before he was due to collect another £10,000 (€11,800) in winnings.

Jon Matthews was diagnosed with mesothelioma – a cancer linked to asbestos – in April 2006.

But the widower, from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, refused to accept his doctor’s prognosis that he would be dead within months and decided to bet against it.
