Belgium edges closer to being first EU state to ban the burqa

BELGIUM is just one step away from becoming the first state to ban the burqa – the head dress that completely covers the face except for the eyes.

The decision in the lower house of the Brussels based parliament was unanimous with just two members abstaining.

It still has to be agreed by the Senate and could become law in the next few months, if not interrupted by pending elections.
