Inquest hears of overdoses

A DEPRESSED Alexander McQueen twice tried to overdose on drugs in the months before he hanged himself, the fashion designer’s psychiatrist and a coroner said.

Coroner Paul Knapman ruled McQueen’s February 11 death was a suicide, and said the designer took his life after taking a mixture of cocaine, sleeping pills and tranquillisers.

The 40-year-old “killed himself while the balance of his mind was disturbed”, Mr Knapman told a public inquest yesterday.

“It seems he had a history of self-harm and, no doubt fuelled by cocaine, he resorted to desperate measures to end his life,” he said.
