Israel strikes Gaza Strip

ISRAELI aircraft struck multiple targets in the Gaza Strip yesterday following a rocket attack on southern Israel.

The Israeli military said aircraft struck four targets early yesterday — two weapons-making factories and two weapons-storage facilities. It said no injuries were reported.

But Hamas security officials say 10 sites were hit — a cheese factory, a movie- making complex built by the territory’s Islamic militant Hamas rulers and open areas where militants train.

Gaza health official Dr Moaiya Hassanain said three Palestinian children were wounded in one of the air strikes and have been taken to hospital.

The military said the air strikes came in response to a rocket attack on Thursday, which caused no injuries.

A string of recent Palestinian rocket attacks on southern Israel have increased tensions in the region.

A statement released yesterday by the Hamas government criticised an Israeli “escalation” against Gaza.

At the same time, the statement says, the Hamas government is “making contact with the factions to safeguard internal agreement”.
