Chirac in jobs scam probe

FORMER French president Jacques Chirac has been placed under investigation over allegations he put allies on the city of Paris’s payroll for non-existent jobs during his time as mayor.

The 77-year-old said he was placed under preliminary investigation, meaning a judge has ruled there is strong evidence to suggest a crime and has given investigators more time to decide whether to send the suspects for trial or drop the case.
