TWO eight-year-old twin girls were in hospital in Russia yesterday after being allegedly thrown from the window of their eighth floor apartment by their mother’s boyfriend.

Nikolai Zakharkin, a captain in the Russian military, has been charged with attempted murder.

One of the girls is in an emergency care unit, while officials said the other one is in a less serious condition in hospital.

Prosecutors said investigators believe Zakharkin was acting out of jealousy because the twins’ mother was late coming home.

The Prosecutor General’s Investigative Committee said that the officer sent a text message to his wife saying: “You may bid farewell to Dasha and Katya.”

Reports said the girls only survived because trees broke their fall from the apartment window and they landed on wet earth.

A doctor is quoted as saying at least one of the girls was asleep when she was thrown.
