BBC’s Top Gear was yesterday criticised by broadcasting regulator Ofcom for staging a scene in which a man was seen to shoot himself in the head, before the watershed.

The spoof advert, screened in an 8pm slot, prompted 50 complaints to Ofcom that footage was too graphic for that time.

The BBC, which did not screen a warning, defended the scene, pointing to “the ludicrous and obviously comic depiction of the suicide”.
