Flight 447 still a mystery

THE inquiry into the crash of Air France Flight 447 could take at least a year and a half to reach a conclusion, the director of the French agency investigating the incident said yesterday.

BEA director Paul-Louis Arslanian said he still does not know exactly where the plane went down or what caused the accident, three months after the flight from Rio de Janeiro in Brazil to Paris crashed into the Atlantic, killing all 228 people on board.

Speaking in Paris, Arslanian said the agency had not issued a recommendation to airlines over speed measuring equipment because there was no evidence to justify it.
