Olmert faces fraud charges

ISRAELI legal authorities have indicted former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert on corruption charges.

Olmert faces fraud charges

The indictments charge Olmert with illegally accepting funds from a US backer and double-billing for trips abroad. He faces charges including fraud and breach of trust. The charges surfaced when Olmert was prime minister, eventually forcing him to quit. He allegedly committed the offences while mayor of Jerusalem and later as a cabinet minister, and before being elected prime minister in 2006. Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu replaced Olmert as prime minister in March. Olmert denies any wrongdoing.
