Abductor thought he could control sound using his mind

UNTIL Phillip Garrido was taken into custody for the suspected kidnap of Jaycee Lee Dugard, his blog – Voices Revealed – had lain quietly unnoticed.

But yesterday the website, which contains the ramblings of a 58-year-old who believed he could control sound using the power of his mind, has received thousands of hits and hundreds of comments.

In a series of bizarre postings on the blog, Garrido attempts to set out his belief that he has a divine gift to speak in an “unearthly” language.

Using the tag “themanwhospokehismind”, he portrays himself as a prophet chosen to provide a “major wake-up call” to the world which would lead to the salvation of humanity.

In a posting just under two weeks before his arrest, he claims to have demonstrated the ability to “speak in the tongues of angels” urging people to email him for a demonstration of his supernatural powers.

He claims to have developed a device to broadcast voices in his head and argues that his ideas could help schizophrenics struggling with violent urges.

Placed online over the past four months, the website contains a series of confused and confusing postings on the theme of voices which he says have been blocked out by an unbelieving humanity in the grip of a “cultural trance”.

It centres around a “report” in which members of the public – business clients – confirm that they have been subjected to a “demonstration” of his powers.

He also promotes “God’s Desire”, the non-profit company he registered in April which those who met him took to be an attempt to start a new church.

Although there is no direct reference on the postings to his past as a convicted sex offender, he refers intriguingly to God having cured a “problem”.

“This all began by God removing a problem from my shoulders that behavioural scientists believe is not possible to remove,” he writes in a “disclaimer” section on the site. “Since then my life has seen major improvements allowing me to stand here a free man.”

In one section he describes his voices as an “ability ... to open doors that will honour the creator and his eternal purpose for mankind”.

Elsewhere he describes his theories as a “new insight that has the potential of helping people who hear voices to possibly stop and re-examine their thinking before committing a violent act on themselves and or others”.
