Paroled despite 50-year term for rape and torture

THE man accused of kidnapping Jaycee Lee Dugard 18 years ago in South Lake Tahoe served time in federal and Nevada prisons for the rape and torture of a woman he kidnapped from South Lake Tahoe.

Nevada Division of Parole and Probation chief Bernie Curtis said on Thursday that records indicate that in November 1976, Phillip Garrido kidnapped a California woman from a convenience store parking lot in South Lake Tahoe.

He took her to a storage shed in Reno where he raped and tortured her.
