Iran confirms US hiker arrests

IRAN has officially confirmed that it has arrested three Americans who crossed into its territory from Iraq, White House national security adviser Jim Jones said in Washington yesterday.

“The government has officially acknowledged they have them in their custody,” retired general Jim Jones, the national security adviser, said on NBC television.

The three – Shane Bauer, Sara Shourd and Joshua Fattal – were widely reported to have been arrested by Iranian authorities on July 31.
