ASTRONAUT Neil Armstrong’s famous moon-landing transmission “that’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” was a slip of the tongue, according to new research.

Armstrong has always insisted he actually said “one small step for a man” as he became the first man to step on to the moon in 1969 – but the crucial “a” was inaudible in the television transmission.

Excuses given for the apparent blip include static interference or Armstrong’s Ohio accent.
