‘No crime’ in Slumdog case

INDIAN police said yesterday they would not charge the father of a child star from the hit film Slumdog Millionaire, and ended their investigation into claims he tried to sell his 9-year-old girl to a British reporter posing as a wealthy sheikh.

The father of Rubina Ali, Rafiq Qureshi, has denied any wrongdoing.

“There is not any crime. The matter is closed,” said Rahim Shaikh, the senior police inspector in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar, where the claim against Mr Qureshi was processed.
