Respects paid to Freud

BRITISH prime minister Gordon Brown joined stars including Bono and Stephen Fry yesterday for the funeral of writer, broadcaster and former Liberal MP Clement Freud.

The service, which was filled with laughter in places as Freud’s life was celebrated, was also attended by Paul Merton, David Morrissey, Richard Curtis, Mel Smith and Freud’s son, Matthew.

It took place on what would have been Freud’s 85th birthday.

Freud died at home in London on April 15.
