Mumbai gunman trial begins

THE trial of the only surviving Mumbai massacre gunman began yesterday with the prosecution claiming the attacks were part of a criminal conspiracy hatched in Pakistan.

The prosecution said the raid’s sophistication suggested intelligence professionals in Pakistan were involved.

Mohammed Ajmal Kasab is charged with 12 criminal counts, including murder and waging war.

Prosecutors say Kasab and nine other gunmen are responsible for the deaths of 166 people and the wounding of 304 more.
