SKIES around the world are getting dimmer as a result of air pollution, a study has shown.

The researchers compiled a database of visibility measurements taken between 1973 and 2007 at more than 3,000 meteorological stations across the world.

Visibility was defined as the distance an observer could see clearly from the site where the measurement was taken.
