TAKING his defence to the airwaves rather than his impeachment trial, Governor Rod Blagojevich lashed out at his accusers yesterday and revealed he had considered naming chatshow host Oprah Winfrey to the senate.

The prosecutor in the impeachment trial of Blagojevich said yesterday his goal is not to punish the governor. In his opening statement, David Ellis said he will not try to prove Blagojevich committed a crime because it isn’t a criminal trial.

The question, he said, is whether Blagojevich abused his authority. Senators will decide whether to convict the governor and remove him from office.
