Call for probe

IRELAND will call for a full investigation into the Gaza war to see if either side violated international criminal law when EU ministers meet in Brussels today.

This is much wider than the investigation proposed by the UN into the Israeli bombings of their compounds in Gaza and more in line with what human rights bodies are demanding.

Foreign Minister Micheal Martin’s call will be supported by Belgium and a number of other countries but ministers are likely to be divided on the issue and unwilling to risk finding Israel has breached international law.
