Holy plot twist, Batman.

Batman fans yesterday learned the Caped Crusader has been killed off in his latest comic issue.

Holy plot twist, Batman.

Batman RIP sees “the end of Bruce Wayne as Batman”, the comic’s Scottish writer Grant Morrison revealed.

In the latest issue Batman dies in a fireball as a helicopter crashes in his never-ending quest to stamp out crime in Gotham City.

Batman confronts Mangrove Pierce, aka The Black Glove, after he storms Wayne Manor and destroys the Bat Cave.

After being shot by the Black Glove, who initially claims to be his father Thomas Wayne, Batman manages to sum up enough strength to jump onto his helicopter as he attempts to flee following the assassination attempt.

After fighting over the controls, the two enemies are killed when the copter crashes to the ground.

Batman’s devastated sidekick Robin rushes to the scene, unable to comprehend what has happened.

But mystery remains whether Bruce Wayne has retired from his duties or if he really has been killed.

Morrison would not reveal who would be the new Batman, but the frontrunners include Tim Drake who has been Robin since 1991 and Dick Grayson — the original Boy Wonder — who now protects Gotham City as Nightwing.

However, if he has, it is not the first time a superhero has met an unfortunate end in the comic world.

Last year, Captain America was killed after being shot by a sniper in New York.

Superman’s death in 1992 at the hands of Doomsday became the biggest selling Superman comic in history.

He was later resurrected.

“Using science which we mere mortals cannot even understand, the Eradicator put Superman in a Kryptonian rejuvenation matrix that massaged him back to life,” said DC Comics editor Mike Carlin, explaining the hero’s return.
