A STUDY ranking Ireland eighth in the world for gender equality — up one place from last year — indicates that economically and politically a huge gap remains between men and women.

The global gender gap study, from the World Economic Forum, reveals that while girls and women are almost equal with their male peers in educational attainment, and health, when it comes to politics and decision making, the gulf between the sexes remains large.

According to the study, Norway, Finland and Sweden are the countries with the greatest equality between the sexes, while Saudi Arabia, Chad and Yemen were the least equal.
